LAMBDA HIKING CLUB CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I – NAME

Section 1:  The name of this organization shall be the Lambda Hiking Club.

ARTICLE II – PURPOSE

Section 1:  The Lambda Hiking Club is a non-partisan, non-religious group dedicated to providing friendly, safe and fun outdoor activities for the members and friends of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community of Utah.

ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP

Section 1:  Any person 18 years or older who is in agreement with its purpose and who has attended two club activities within the past 12 months is considered to be a member of the Lambda Hiking Club.

ARTICLE IV – PLANNING MEETINGS

Section 1:  Planning meetings shall be held at least once in the spring, summer, and fall for the purpose of planning club activities, approving reimbursements, voting on club policies and amendments to the constitution, and voting for club officers.

Section 2:  Policies and reimbursements shall be approved by a majority vote of all members present at the planning meeting and voting.

ARTICLE V – OFFICERS

Section 1:  President.  The president shall schedule and preside over planning meetings and shall ensure that the activities of the club are carried out in accordance with this constitution.

Section 2:  Communications Officer.  The Communications Officer shall be responsible for informing the club members and friends of club planning meetings, activities, and policies by maintaining the club web site, email list and printed newsletter.

Section 3:  Treasurer.  The Treasurer of the Lambda Hiking Club shall be responsible for keeping track of donations received by the club, reimbursing expenses as approved at planning meetings, and providing an account of the club finances.

Section 4:  Officers shall be elected at the annual spring planning meeting for a term of one year, beginning immediately upon election.  Officers are elected by a majority vote of those members present and voting.

ARTICLE VI – ACTIVITIES

Section 1:  The club shall hold activities consistent with the Purpose of the club.

Section 2:  An Activity Leader shall be selected to be in charge of each activity. Activity Leaders must be members of the club.

Section 3:  Activities are open to any person who is in agreement with the Purpose of the club and who agrees in writing to follow the club's Rules of Participation.

ARTICLE VII – AMENDMENTS

Section 1:  Proposed amendments shall be submitted to the Communications Officer, who shall publish the proposed amendment to the club members one month in advance of the planning meeting at which it will be voted on.

Section 2:  This constitution may be amended by a two thirds vote of all members present and voting at the planning meeting.
